And just like that, it’s been a while since I’ve last written a post, but you know what that means—there’s been a lot of work backstage.
The upcoming Ranger Paraversum novel, Girls Back Home, is set to publish October 25th 2021, and I’m hard at work with that one. (I am, I promise!)
In the meantime, I’ve somehow managed to become a co-founder (and co-editor) of a brand new speculative fiction Magazine out of Croatia, Morina kutija (literally, Mora’s Box), and issue no. 1 has just gotten published… today! The magazine is free to read (find your favourite format here), and the first issue features three stories in English, too.
Working on the magazine, alongside Antonija Mežnarić and Igor Rendić, has been quite an experience (we’ve had some awesome writers send their stories in!), one I’m kinda eager to keep building on in the years to come. We’re tentatively planning to publish no. 2 late this year, so watch this space.
If you’re one of those people who keep nagging me for the sequel to Izazov krvi (it’s happening, just… in the unforseeable future), and you read Croatian, you might be interested to hear that a short story about a certain werewolf has managed to find its way into the pages of the magazine. It’s a brand new character, one I’m reluctant to spoil anything about, and one who’s stuck in the limbo of my first ever attempt at writing in English, way back when. (There’s nothing wrong than unfinished good stories, especially when they’re so close to your heart.) As a side note, I love doing research for my historical fantasy, recently—it’s incredible how many fun details you can uncover when you’re not actively looking!
Anyway, go read Morina kutija.
Oh, and the publishing cottage I’ve started with my partner in crime last year, Shtriga, has somehow split the ESFS award for Best Publisher, awarded a few days ago at Eurocon 2021, so there’s that! (Thank you!)
Hope you’re having a good summer, one filled with reading and/or writing! Here’s to fall—and many new stories to come.
